Control Spotify
without leaving
your game.

KeyTunes hooks directly into Windows' native Audio Session and Media APIs — the same layer your system volume keys use. No Premium requirement, no window scraping, no lag. Just hotkeys that work anywhere, and a mini player that gets out of your way.

Features

Everything a background utility should be

Fast because it talks to Windows directly. Quiet because it's supposed to be.

Zero-lag volume

Moves in precise 2% steps through the Windows Audio Session API — the same layer your system mixer uses. No polling, no delay.

Hotkeys that don't care what's focused

Global shortcuts fire even in full-screen games or your IDE. Rebind anything in seconds, right from the app.

Floating mini player

Drag it anywhere on screen. Album art loads at full 600×600 resolution from iTunes.

No Premium needed

No account linking, no OAuth. Free accounts work exactly like Premium ones.

Zero telemetry

Nothing leaves your machine except album art lookups and update checks.

Auto-updates itself

New versions ship straight from GitHub Releases. No separate installer runs.

How it works

Built on Windows, not around it

Other tools scrape window titles or simulate keypresses blindly. KeyTunes talks to the same system APIs Windows itself uses.

FAQ

Questions worth answering upfront

No. KeyTunes never talks to Spotify's Web API, so there's no Premium requirement and nothing to link. Free and Premium accounts behave identically.

It shouldn't. KeyTunes reads and controls playback through Windows' own System Media Transport Controls — the same system your keyboard's media keys use — rather than hooking into Spotify's internals directly.

Just Spotify. KeyTunes hooks directly into the Windows Audio Session API to specifically target and adjust Spotify's audio stream in 2% steps, leaving your master system volume and other apps completely untouched.

None. No analytics, no accounts, no telemetry. The only network calls it makes are album art lookups against the iTunes Search API and update checks against GitHub Releases.

Yes, MIT licensed. The full source is on GitHub, including the release you download from.

Not currently. KeyTunes relies on Windows-specific APIs (WASAPI and SMTC), so it's Windows 10/11 only for now.
